National Schools Boccia Finals 2012
The Bushey Meads boccia team made it through to the National Finals of the schools league for the second consecutive year.
With 116 schools entered in the competition from across the country The Bushey Meads team have done fantastically well to become one of the top 12 finalists again.
The competition held in Stoke on 12th July saw Bushey Meads drawn in their group matches against schools from Blackburn, Nottinghamshire and Darwen. As the previous Champions Bushey Meads were targeted from the beginning as the team to beat!
The games started well with successive victories in close matches against the schools from Blackburn and Darwen. The final group match was extremely close and with the final score being 6-6 a tie break was required which unfortunately Bushey Meads team lost by 1 shot, however due to their fantastic efforts in the previous games the team qualifies for the semi finals by virtue of being the highest placed runner up.
The semi-final saw Bushey drawn against their victors in the league rounds, although the game was close from the start Ash Lea school pulled away in the final hand to win by 2 shots and stop Bushey Meads defending their title.
Ash Lea school went on to win the final in emphatic style and a slightly dejected and tired Bushey team could not rally themselves to gain the bronze medal, eventually finishing 4th.
Although disappointed not to retain their title, fourth place in the National Final is a fantastic result for the Bushey Meads team.
All members of the squad should be congratulated on their efforts both in the finals and in the rounds leading up to the finals, they have made their school proud once again.
Finals Squad: Rebecca Sullivan, Charlie Baker, Jack Benton, Lola Chappell
