Welcome to 2013!
Happy New Year to everyone – I hope you had a good break and that the festivities did not leave you too overcome.
I am glad to report that work has started on the roof of G-Block – Mathematics block. Therefore, if you come to school and you see lots of scaffolding at the front of the school you will know what it is for. The funding for this is as a result of a successful bid to central government for £80,000. This is the second bid since we have become an academy which has been successful. I know it may not be the most exciting project, but it represents the completion of our outstanding roofing projects for the school. If you are wondering why we are undertaking this project at this time of year, it is because this grant must be spent by 31st March 2013.
Sixth Form Open Evening
On Wednesday 23 January, 7pm -9pm, we are holding our Open Evening for all current Year 11 parents/carers and students to come along to meet the Head of Sixth Form and subject staff to discuss subject options in Sixth Form. This is a great opportunity for both the students and parents/carers and I hope to see as good an attendance at this event as we usually experience. This event is also open to students currently studying at other schools who are interested in joining Bushey Meads for their Sixth Form study.
Procedure for school closure in severe weather
As we move into the winter period I would like to remind you of our school closure procedure should the school have to close due to inclement weather. The most immediate way to find out the status is to check on the school website. If the school is to be closed then this will be notified on the front (home) page of the website. If there is no closure notice on the front page the school is open. In addition, we would provide information on the Herts Direct site: hertsdirect.org
A text is also sent to the main parent/carer contact for each student where we have been provided with a mobile telephone number . However, I must warn you that this is not necessarily the most reliable method to receive this information – I am sure you appreciate, if Bushey Meads were to close it is likely many local schools would be closing also and using the same text service which can result in considerable delivery delays.
I can assure you, I will always attempt to open the school. I know that closure can result in considerable difficulties for families, let alone the disruption to student learning. I hope that we will get through the winter without any closure, but I like to keep families informed of our procedures should the unfortunate eventuality arise.
