Executive Principal’s Blog – 18 September 2015

On Wednesday afternoon of this week all BMS staff gathered to mark a significant moment in the life of our school. It coincided with the launch of our new teaching and learning communities and our involvement with the Schools, Students and Teachers network (SSAT) National Embedding Formative Assessment Project. BMS is one of only 70 schools from across the country chosen to be part of this exciting and prestigious project – very much a testimony to the excellent work of all staff and the commitment of our outstanding Deputy Headteacher Ms Morawska, who wrote a successful bid and took part in a rigorous interview process to secure the success.

Wednesday was also a time to celebrate the fact that we have now received planning permission for some exciting new developments across our school site. Our school is very oversubscribed and will continue to be one of the preferred schools in the local area. For this reason the Local Authority have set aside 3.6 million pounds to fund an exciting building expansion project.

An initial idea of building a large Sixth Form Block at the front of the school has now been set aside and the project is now split into two phases which will ultimately benefit many more areas of our school. Phase 1 (for which planning permission has been secured) will significantly increase car parking for staff at the rear of the school, expand and develop the Science Block and create a superb new classroom in F Block. Phase 2 will provide enhanced facilities for PE, Art, Music, English, the existing Sixth Form Centre, the Administration Offices and A Block. We also have the possibility to expand the School Restaurant and provide a new entrance way to the school – finances permitting.

There is still a lot of work to do but we are hoping that building work will actually start in March of next year and the two Phases will hopefully follow on, one after the other – assuming that planning permission for Phase 2 will be granted in due course. A huge thank you goes to Richard Chambers our Facilities Manager for his hard work throughout the project so far.

Exciting times! Do make sure that you click on the link to read about the rest of this week’s BMS News……..
