Student Leadership


There are a wide variety of Student Leadership opportunities at Bushey Meads School. These include:

Form Representatives (HOUSE COUNCIL & Student Parliament)

Each House has its’ own council meeting once every half term led by the House Captain and reporting to the Head of House.  A representative from each form attends the House council meeting and raises any items for discussion received from their form. Each House nominates 2 representatives who also sits on the Student Parliament along with the House Captain. One of the representatives must be from KS3.

Charity Ambassadors (House Charity)

The Deputy House Captain is responsible for leading the House Charity meetings, once every half term. Each House has its’ own designated Charity chosen by the committee. Each Form and House runs small charity events to raise money for their chosen charity. The Head of Charities oversees this and also organises the collection of money for whole school charity events.

Prefects

Each House has Year 12 and Year 13 prefects, approved by the 6th form team. Duties range from helping out a Year 7 form in the House once a week, participating in the mentoring and buddy schemes to duties in the school restaurant.

Head Boy and Girl

The Head Boy and Girl will be selected at Easter each academic year following a letter of application, vote from members of staff and an interview with the Executive Principal and Assistant Headteacher of KS5. Duties are:

  • Leading Student Parliament meetings
  • Liaising with staff regarding action points from Student Parliament
  • Representing the School during events such as Celebration evenings, Open evenings and Year 6 Induction days
  • Representing the Student Voice at Governors meetings

Deputy Head Boy and Girl

The Deputy Head Boy and Girl will begin their role in September of Year 12 following a letter of application and an interview with the Head of 6th Form and the Assistant Head of KS5. Duties are:

  • Attending and providing minutes at Student Parliament meetings
  • Deputising for the Head Girl and Boy
  • Representing the School during events such as Celebration evenings, Open evenings and Year 6 Induction days
  • Leading the Eco-Monitor committee

 

Head Prefects

The Head Prefects will be selected at Easter each academic year following a letter of application, vote from members of staff and an interview with the Executive Principal and Assistant Headteacher of KS5. Duties are:

  • Organising the rota system for Prefects
  • Leading the Prefect Team
  • Representing the School during events such as Celebration evenings, Open evenings and Year 6 Induction days

Head of Charities

The Head of Charities will be selected at Easter each academic year following a letter of application and an interview with the Head of 6th Form and the Assistant Head of KS5. Duties are:

  • Liaising with the Deputy House Captains about House Charity events
  • Organising and supporting Whole School Charity Events
  • Representing the School during events such as Celebration evenings, Open evenings and Year 6 Induction days

House Captains

The House Captain is selected from each Year 10 form in September following a vote in their form tutor group. Duties are:

  • Leading House Council meetings
  • Liaising with the Head Boy and Girl and Deputies
  • Encouraging and leading the House in House competitions and events

Deputy House Captains

The Deputy House Captain is chosen from each Year 9 Form in September following a vote in their form tutor group.  Duties are:

  • Leading the House Charity Committee
  • Supporting and helping to run House/Form charity events

Eco-Monitors

The Eco-Monitors are chosen in September from every Form group in the school following a vote in their form tutor group. Duties are:

  • To be responsible for recycling of paper in their Form room
  • To conduct energy efficiency surveys
  • To promote energy efficiency around the school

BMS Buddies

Help to support the transition from primary school into Year 7.

 

Anti-Bullying Ambassadors

Help and advise students who are being bullied, a friendly face to help support other students.

Learning Ambassadors

There is a range of leadership opportunities that focus on improving learning and skills. These include:

  • Performing Arts Managers
